In the upcoming MacOS Sequoia it will not longer be possible to install software that has not been notarized by Apple without a hassle. The control-click->open trick will not longer work.
There is a workaround, but this one might also disappear in the future:

In will mean in practise:
1) Additional trouble with novice users if your software hasn't been notarized by Apple
2) Distributing software withount a valid Apple Developer Account including Notarisation is not longer possible
3) Especially freeware from small developers will disappear as these freetime-developers do not want to pay Apple to be allowed to distribute their software
4) More security as unexperienced users can not be tricked into bypassing Gatekeeper
